Tovino Thomas’ Vazhakk to be screened at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

The 2023 edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne is fast approaching, with the organisers getting ready to host the event soon. The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place on August 11, with movies like Ponniyin Selvan 2, Bhediya, and Pathaan already making it to the nomination list for the ‘Best Film’ title.

The latest news is that the Malayalam film Vazhakk (The Quarrel), starring Tovino Thomas, is now an official selection to the film festival. The movie was screened at the International Film Festival of Kerala last year, where it was widely appreciated.

The plot revolves around Siddharthan, a lawyer who finds himself in a challenging situation with his wife Lakshmi, who desperately wants a divorce, but is being denied by him. Feeling frustrated after a difficult conversation with his wife, Siddharthan decides to clear his mind by taking a drive through the forest.

During his journey, he encounters a woman and her mute daughter, both in need of assistance due to the woman’s illness. Siddharthan tries to help the woman, leading him to an unexpected path. The film touches upon the elements of masculinity and vengeance.

Vazhakk is directed by Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, who is known for his award-winning movies. His previous notable works were Ozhivudivasathe Kali, Chola and Sexy Durga.

In the film, Tovino is paired opposite actress Kani Kusruti, who is known for her performance in Kerala Cafe, Pada and Nishiddho. Her performance in Biriyaani also garnered widespread acclaim. Sudev Nair essays the role of an antagonist in Vazhakk.

Meanwhile, Tovino is riding high on the massive success of 2018: Everyone is a Hero, as it marks the highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time. He has finished shooting for his ambitious project Ajayante Randam Moshanam, and has now joined the set of Nadikar Thilakam. His upcoming project is Identity, a movie from the makers of Forensic. Touted as an action thriller, Identity also stars Trisha. This will be Trisha’s third Malayalam film after Hey Jude and Ram.
