Khalid Rahman's Thallumaala was one of the biggest hits of 2022. Now, on the anniversary of the film's release, producer Ashiq Usman has confirmed that there will be a sequel to the Tovino Thomas-starrer. The producer has included the hashtag 'Thallumaala 2 loading soon' in his post, expressing his gratitude to Thallumaala's cast and crew.
Earlier one of the actors in Thallumaala, Lukman Avaran, had dropped a hint about the film getting a sequel. But there was no official confirmation until the producer offered one with the help of a hashtag in his recent social media post. As a result, Thallumaala 2 becomes the second sequel in Tovino Thomas' career so far as the second instalment of Minnal Murali, too, is on the cards.
What is Thallumala about?
Thallumaala, directed by Khalid Rahman, is an action-packed romantic comedy that follows the story of Manavalan Wazim and his group of friends. Tovino portray s the role of the young and hotheaded Wazim, who frequently engages in fights with others. Wazim and his friends come across another gang led by a police officer, and the altercation between the two groups affects Wazim's life and marriage.
Tovino Thomas, Kalyani Priyadarshan play leads in Thallumaala
Kalyani Priyadarshan appears as the female lead in Thallumaala, which is scripted by Muhsin Parari and Ashraf Hamza. Muhsin initially planned to direct the film but later changed his mind. Along with the lead cast, the supporting roles are played by Binu Pappu, Shine Tom Chacko, Adhrie Joe, Johny Antony, and Chemban Vinod Jose.
Tovino pushed his limits for Thallumaala
Supreme Sundar choreographed the action sequences which caught the attention of the audience for their novelty. Tovino had previously mentioned pushing his limits for the fight scenes in an OTTplay interview. Cinematography was done by Jimshi Khalid and music by Vishnu Vijay. The film's songs were widely praised for their innovative music and unconventional lyrics.
Thallumaala grosses Rs 50Cr at the box office
Thallumaala, which grossed more than Rs 50 crore at the worldwide box office, is one of the top ten highest-grossing Malayalam films. Besides the commercial gain, the film also received critical recognition, securing awards in the Kerala State Awards 2023 for editing and dance choreography.
