Tovino Thomas' Neelavelicham first look poster out, Aashiq Abu’s period film to release in December 2022

It’s now a given that every Aashiq Abu film has something new to offer. After Mayaanadhi, Virus and Naradan, the filmmaker is teaming up again with Tovino Thomas for Neelavelicham and the team shared its first look poster along with its release date on Tuesday.

The movie, which is based on Vaikom Muhammed Basheer’s story of the same name, is set in the 1960s and is an adaptation of the legendary writer’s work, which was also the base for the first Malayalam horror movie Bhargavi Nilayam in 1964.

The poster, which was shared on social media by its actors, features a silhouette of Tovino’s character who stands in the doorway of a dusty house that has a chandelier but is lit by the blue lights. Neelavelicham will mark the second period film Tovino has been part of, counting Minnal Murali that hints at a 90s setting. Incidentally, Tovino has also signed two more period films - Pallichattambi that is set in the 1950s and Ajayante Randam Moshanam, which has him playing a triple role and spans three different time periods.

Neelavelicham also has Roshan Mathew, Shine Tom Chacko and Rima Kallingal as part of the cast. The movie marks Tovino’s second collaboration with Aashiq this year after Naradan, which hit theatres in March 2022. The upcoming movie is currently slated for a December 2022 release.

Tovino, meanwhile, has two big releases lined up for June. Vineeth Kumar’s Dear Friend, which has him teaming up with Darshana Rajendran, Basil Joseph, Arjun Radhakrishnan and Sanchana Natarajan, is set to hit theatres on June 10, while Vaashi, which has him playing a lawyer with Keerthy Suresh, will release on June 17. The actor has also completed shooting for Khalid Rahman’s Thallumaala and Sanal Kumar Sasidharan’s Vazhakku.
