Top live-action superhero series to watch

Who doesn’t like superheroes! especially when they display heroic patriotism, pull off their signature outfits out of nowhere, fight all odds in protecting people around them, they never fail to meet the expectations of viewers. Marvel has always won hearts through its popularity in movies and in recent years stepped into television series with the same pace. The superhero genre seems to spread its wings for both films and television equally. The following are a few live-action superhero series streaming on OTT. Marvel’s DareDevil

A 2015 American television series based on Marvel Comics of the same name. Charlie Cox as Mathew Murdoch/Daredevil, Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page play leading roles. The series sets itself apart from the MCU films with its gritty narrative and excellently choreographed fight sequences. I bet you are going to hate Kingpin Wilson Fisk, who is arguably the best villain in the MCU.

Watchmen

A 2019 HBO miniseries consisting of 9 episodes is a slightly different take from Zack Synder’s 2009 film of the same name. Winning eleven Emmy Awards and many other prestigious accolades, the story takes place 34 years after the events of the original graphic novel by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. It explores several socio-political themes through its narrative.

Marvel’s The Punisher

The 2017 series that has two seasons is based on the violent and tragic life of Frank Castle. He resorts to deadly force to fight crime in his city, showing no mercy to those who cross his path. Frank’s character is played by Jon Bernthal, reprising the role from Daredevil.

The Boys

A 2019 Amazon Original series is based on the graphic novel of the same name. The series has an ensemble cast that includes Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Tomer Capon, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Chace Crawford, Jessie T. Usher, Nathan Mitchell and Dominique McElligott. The story is based on superheroes who misuse their superpowers. A group of vigilantes, called The Boys, sets out on a mission to bring these powerful beings to justice.

Jessica Jones

The 2015 neo-noir psychological thriller series that aired three seasons, stars Kysten Ritter in a titular role. After the tragic end of Jessica Jones’ superhero career, she starts off as a private investigator in New York city. The reemergence of the villainous Kilgrave brings Jessica back in action.

Arrow

The 2012 sci-fi superhero series set the tone for a new era for superheroes in television. The series ran for 8 seasons consisting 170 episodes and spawned several spin-offs including The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. Stephen Amell portrays Oliver Queen, a pampered billionaire playboy who gets stranded on an island when his yacht goes missing, and is presumed dead. But he returns back to the city after five years as a hooded vigilante called Arrow, who would later become the popular DC superhero Green Arrow.
