Tom Cruise’s Pete "Maverick" Mitchell graced the big screen yet again after more than three decades in Top Gun: Maverick. The sequel to the classic actioner hit theatres recently, and seemed to have sent the entire internet into a tizzy. Twitter was erupt with fans gushing over the film, and there were more than a few who got emotional as well.
Quite a few fans were blown away by the film’s story, action sequences, cinematography as well as Cruise’s performance as the titular character. One user used words like ‘insane’, ‘exhilarating’ and ‘surprisingly emotional’ to describe the film. Another called the film one of the best he had seen in the last five years and talked about how the film was a ‘must see’.
A lot of users talked about how the film can truly be appreciated only on the big screen and urged fans to catch the film in theatres. Many were floored by Cruise’s performance and action prowess, with one user claiming that the actor was ‘operating on a level above the rest of the action genre’.
Majority of viewers seemed to agree that the sequel did indeed manage to do justice to the original 1986 film. While one user said that the new film surpassed the original in ‘pretty much every way’, another said it was ‘one of the finest made sequels’ they had ever seen. A lot of users also praised the film’s third act.
The film also seemed to have made a lot of users emotional too.Even Hollywood celebrities such as Michelle Rodriguez praised Cruise.
