Tom Holland has officially become the first actor to star in four standalone Spider-Man movies as Peter Parker, breaking Tobey Maguire’s record, who had a complete trilogy to himself. This milestone was confirmed today as Sony, in association with Marvel Studios, announced that Spider-Man 4 is not only on track but also has an official title and release date.
For the past year, fans have been speculating about Spider-Man 4—from rumors of its development to director changes, script rewrites, and constant delays. However, the makers have now put all uncertainties to rest. The highly anticipated film has been officially titled Spider-Man: Brand New Day and is set to hit theaters worldwide on July 31, 2026.
Yes, you read that right! Spider-Man comic fans may have already decoded the significance of the title, but if you haven’t, we’re here to break it down for you. The announcement was made at CinemaCon by Tom Holland himself, who appeared via video message. Interestingly, Brand New Day is a 2008 Spider-Man comic storyline that follows the aftermath of universe-altering events, where Peter Parker finds himself in a dangerous new reality.
The storyline ties directly to Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Peter asks Doctor Strange to erase him from everyone’s memory. The comic arc also features a controversial moment where Peter Parker and MJ’s marriage comes to an end. With the MCU’s Peter now forgotten by the world, the title Brand New Day perfectly sets up a fresh start and a potential new trilogy.
The film will, of course, be led by Tom Holland, who has now set a record as the first actor to portray Spider-Man in four standalone movies. Zendaya will reprise her role as MJ, and Jacob Batalon will return as Ned. Beyond this, no other cast members have been confirmed.
Destin Daniel Cretton will direct the film, taking over from Jon Watts. The script has been penned by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna, the duo behind Spider-Man: No Way Home.
While Tom Holland could not attend the annual CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, he sent a video message to the attendees, saying: "I'm so sorry I can't be with you. I am halfway around the world shooting a movie. I know we left you with a massive cliffhanger at the end of No Way Home, so Spider-Man: Brand New Day is exactly that—a fresh start. That’s all I can say."
Meanwhile, director Destin Daniel Cretton took center stage at CinemaCon to discuss the immense responsibility of directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He stated: "I'm spending my time exploring the next stage of this amazing character with a team of the most incredible artists in the world. We're all just nerding out daily—over the suit, the swinging, and how to create an emotional story and an experience unlike anything seen before." (as quoted by Variety).
With this announcement, Tom Holland will have two massive releases within a fortnight, including Christopher Nolan's upcoming The Odyssey adaptation and his fourth Spider-Man film.
