Every human being has a certain threshold of tolerance for pain, suffering, injustice, etc. At some point, he/she will reach a point of no return and react, in passive or aggressive form, unleashing all the pent-up emotion. This, it would seem, is what is the driving force of Kannada actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty’s next film, Toby, in which he plays the title role. The trailer of the film, directed by Basil AL Chalakkal, was released moments ago, and has Raj, as Toby, a simpleton whose life changes and sets him on a path of violent destruction because of how he is treated by people around him. And this avatar of his, as the opening line of the trailer tells us, is not a force to be meddled with.

Watch the emotionally-charged trailer of Toby here:

When the first look of Toby was revealed, which had Raj unleashing the destructive force, ‘Maari’, in him, he had said that Toby is a mass film that is character driven. Going by the trailer, it would seem that the film is driven by Raj, Chaithra Achar , Deepak Shetty, Gopalkrishna Deshpande and Samyukta Hornad. What begins as a simple feel-good family drama, takes an ugly turn owing to circumstances – that’s the first impression of the Toby trailer. The film has been written by Raj, so, obviously, it will have more than meets the eye and the trailer is only a fleeting glimpse of what’s in store.

Toby, which is being presented and released by KVN Productions in Karnataka on August 25, has Raj’s long-time associate Basil AL Chalakkal in the director’s chair. Midhun Mukundan, who has scored music for all of Raj’s films so far, returns as composer, as does Praveen Shriyan for cinematography. The plan, Raj had said, was to release Toby in Kannada first, and that he would take it to other markets if the reception to the original version is decent.
