Kannada actor-filmmaker Raj B Shetty’s Toby is in the final stretch of its race towards its date with audiences. The film, which Raj has written and starred in as the title character, is a Varamahalakshmi presentation for audiences on August 25. The team, especially Raj, has been on a promotional juggernaut, over the last couple of months, that one didn’t really notice that the release date had crept up and is only days away. The obvious question that audiences who are eagerly waiting for the film is – when do bookings open for us to watch it? With films that have quite a bit of buzz around them, the practice has been to open advance bookings at least a week prior, or the preceding weekend at least. There was no news of Toby, though.

Until Raj and team took to social media on Sunday evening to announce that advance bookings for Toby would open on Tuesday, August 22. Whether or not Toby will be available in more than just the Kannada original will become clear when bookings open. The film, Raj had said, will get a vast opening in Kannada, with other language versions dependent on the response from audiences and market demand. The Karnataka release is being handled by KVN Productions.

The film is based on a short story by TK Dayanand, which Raj took and rewrote for the big screen. The actor-filmmaker has described the film as a revenge drama and that it is the most massy one he’s ever made, but has been categoric that Toby is driven by its characters, which he believes audiences will root for.
