Vamsee’s Tiger Nageswara Rao attempts to not only recreate but also embellish the story of famed real-life thief ’Stuartpuram’ Nageswara Rao. Ravi Teja, the OG Mass Maharaja of Telugu cinema, plays the titular role in the film which is billed as a commercial entertainer mounted on a rather large scale. Tiger Nageswara Rao is set to arrive in cinemas on October 20, 2023.
Aside from the enterprising story, the period setting and Ravi Teja’s presence, the film also boasts an exciting ensemble cast including actors Jisshu Sengupta and veteran Hindi film actor Anupam Kher. While the former plays the antagonist to the titular character in the film, Anupam Kher will be seen in the alluring role of IB officer Raghvendra Rajput. The first look of Kher’s character in the film was revealed earlier today, August 14, with the help of a new poster.
The same poster also hints at the fact Anupam Kher would play a stern, unyielding character in the film. With Bengali/Hindi actor Jisshu Sengupta assuming a more villainous role in the scheme of things, it would be interesting to see how Kher is utilized in the narrative. Nevertheless, one does hope to see the seasoned actor infuse some intensity into it.
In the recent past, Anupam Kher has quite apparently sought out options in the south and has already made a mark with his performance in Karthikeya 2. The 68-year-old actor has often spoken of his admiration for South Indian cinema and how the language isn’t a big barrier for him, as long as the story behind it is compelling enough. He will also play a key role in the Kannada film Ghost, starring Shiva Rajkumar and others.
Coming back to Tiger Nageswara Rao, writer-director Vamsee has said in the past that aside from the many escapades of Nageswara Rao, his film also wishes to highlight the nobler side of his personality. Stuartpuram Nageswara Rao was regarded as a Robin Hood-like figure for he was known to be quite benevolent towards the poor, often distributing the winnings of his burglaries among them.

Nupur Sanon and Gayatri Bharadwaj play the female leads in Tiger Nageswara Rao. The film, which will be released in five different languages including Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam, is produced by Abhishek Agarwal (The Kashmir Files, Karthikeya 2) with GV Prakash Kumar scoring the music.
