Tiger King 2: Carole Baskin sues Netflix over ‘unauthorised’ use of her footage

The mayhem that made Tiger King the fan favourite it is today seems to be continuing its legacy, even before the release of its highly anticipated second season. In a dramatic turn of events, conservationist and series star Carole Baskin has filed a suit against Netflix, over the use of her footage in the upcoming second season of the show.

According to reports in Variety, Baskin and her husband filed a complaint in a Florida court seeking to prevent the release of the show’s second season. The couple claim that Royal Goode Productions, who produce the series, was not authorised to make use of the footage involving the Baskins that was left over from the show’s first season. Their contract stipulated that the footage be used for one season only and that the couple were surprised when they saw it being used for the trailer of the latest season.

The lawsuit also made claims of how Tiger King’s first season had contained ‘unfair’ depictions of Baskins and her non-profit Big Cat Rescue. It also pointed to several suggestions made in the documentary, denying their veracity. Some of them included the suggestion that the animals at Big Cat Rescue were kept confined in small cages and that Baskin was involved in the disappearance of her first husband.

Netflix has not commented on the issue as yet.

The first season of Tiger King revolved around the life of tiger breeder Joe Exotic, who ran a roadside zoo. Exotic was subsequently arrested on charges of animal abuse and for hiring people to murder Baskins. The documentary series had gone on to become highly popular at Netflix and a second season was announced.

The new season is set to premiere on Netflix on November 17.
