Actor-singer Sunil Raoh was eagerly looking forward to the release of his comeback film, Thurthu Nirgamana in early February and charting out promotional plans for the dark comedy when the pandemic struck and derailed everything. In the time since, the team of the film, led by director Hemanth Kumar, who has also co-produced it, has steadfastly refused to look at a direct-to-OTT option for the it, preferring to wait patiently for a window to release it in theatres only.

Sunil has been quoted as saying that the film was made for a theatrical experience, and involves a lot of visual effects. Thurthu Nirgamana, which literally translates to Emergency Exit, is a fantasy flick, the story of which follows the protagonist who dies unexpectedly and is then given the opportunity to go back in time to three days before his passing. The film is about what one would do when given a chance to relive/change the last few days. The actor took up the project because of its wacky subject, in which he plays Vikram, a laidback guy who does not value time and life, until his death. How he then realizes the value of time and interpersonal relationships forms the crux of the narrative.

According to Hemanth, who had earlier assisted on Hemanth M Rao’s Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu, the film mocks life and death and follows the line that one should not take life too seriously. The concept, he added was based on personal experiences. Thurthu Nirgamana, which also stars Raj B Shetty, Hitha Chandrashekar, Samyukta Hegde, Achyuth Kumar and Sudharani, is now gearing up for its theatrical release. The makers, we hear, have zeroed in on June 24 as the potential date with audiences. At the moment, this puts Thurthu Nirgamana in direct competition with Vikram Ravichandran’s debut film, Trivikrama, at the box office.
