The first film, Thupparivaalan, was directed by Mysskin with Vishal as the lead actor. Taking an indirect jibe at director Mysskin, the actor ‘thanked’ the Thupparivaalan director for making him a filmmaker now. “Thanks to Mysskin sir, it's because of him, I have become a filmmaker myself,” the actor said.

Reflecting on the flak received from industry artists, he said his directorial is a way of challenging his haters. “Many assume that I wouldn't be able to helm a project. What he is going to do, is what a lot of people believe. But this is my perfect opportunity to prove everyone wrong. And hence I take this as a big challenge and will surely deliver a good film,” the actor promised.

Vishal-Mysskin rift: What went wrong?

For the unversed, Vishal’s 2017 detective thriller Thupparivaalan was directed by filmmaker Mysskin. Vishal outshined as a detective agent in the film, and the actor teamed up once again with Mysskin for the film's sequel. But Mysskin opted out of the project, citing a creative difference with the lead actor Vishal. The Mark Antony star later revealed that Vishal’s production house, Vishal Film Factory, hit a roadblock after he and Mysskin had a major falling out. The conflict arose after the movie's budget was overshot by Rs 40 crore. He said that the biggest mistake he made as a producer was to take Mysskin to London and instead, he should have asked him to film the story in India itself. Vishal later took up directing the project and decided to continue the film.
