s the makers of both Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu announce the release date of their respective films on January 11 (as Pongal special releases), fans of both the actors are mighty excited. It's been eight long years since the films of Ajith and Vijay clashed at the box office. The last time they did was in 2014 when Ajith's Veeram and Vijay's Jilla hit screens. Both the films did well at the box office. And this time around, fans are eagerly looking forward to the clash between the two leading stars of Tamil cinema.

Vijay's Varisu is billed as a family-drama-cum-entertainer and is helmed by popular Tollywood director Vamshi Paidipally and bankrolled by Dil Raju. The film has an ensemble star cast, which includes Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady, along with Prakash Raj, Sarathkumar, Srikanth, Shaam, Yogi Babu, Sriman, VTV Ganesh, Ganesh Venkatram, Jayasudha, Khushbu, Sangeetha Krish and Samyuktha to name a few. The film marks composer Thaman's maiden collaboration with Vijay. Speaking at the audio launch, the composer had said that his life has now come full circle after composing for Vijay 27 years after he took the plunge into music. Vijay plays a businessman who is also interested in photography and the actor is seen in a  stylish avatar. The trailer has already clocked 30 million views.

On the other hand, Ajith's Thunivu is a heist thriller and the trailer gave a glimpse of a bank robbery being carried out by Ajith's character. Ajith plays a stylish robber and his character is also seen doling out punch dialogues and playing to the gallery. The mass scenes where he says that being a hero is his job and that he is a sly person are sure whistle-worthy moments. Manju Warrier plays an interesting character and Samuthirakani is a cop in the action entertainer. Music is by Ghibran. The film is helmed by H Vinoth and bankrolled by Boney Kapoor. This is their third project after Nerkonda Paarvai and Valimai.

Here's what the audience has to say about the epic clash.
