Let's take a moment (or many) to process everything as the West heads to bed with happy updates, and we start the day on an exciting note in India. There is so much that we comic nerds have witnessed in the past couple of hours today that Sunday already feels drained. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has grown into a much bigger monster in just a few hours. Desperate measures to restore its fading glory have resulted in some very interesting additions and details to existing projects. Kevin Feige, after much anticipation, got on the stage at the San Diego Comic-Con Hall H event. He introduced fans in the audience and all across the globe to the future of the MCU, where the big villain is the once-hero of the universe, as Robert Downey Jr. returns but not as Iron Man.
The updates that came from the Comic-Con event are wild. While we expected the studio to flaunt these titles, no one expected the updates to be this crazy. The bigger updates have been about Avengers 5, which is now titled Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars, and, of course, The Fantastic Four, which now has a new title too. The comparatively smaller showcases were for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts. Read on to know everything about them below.
Captain America: Brave New World was sure to be included in the panel because it is the immediate next theatrical release for the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Deadpool & Wolverine. The movie has a lot riding on its back as it takes off from where Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers left and introduces Sam Wilson as the new Captain America to the main timeline. Kevin Feige, along with the team, revealed a whole lot about the project at the Hall H event. Present on the stage were Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, and Giancarlo Esposito, who revealed their characters.
A special footage was shown at the panel where it was revealed that Giancarlo is playing Sidewinder, who was called the King of the Serpent Society at the event. The video also confirms the presence and relevance of Adamantium in Brave New World. The metal has already been introduced to the MCU in Deadpool & Wolverine but never named in the film. We hope the footage is released soon. Captain America: Brave New World releases on February 14, 2025.

There has been minimal buzz around Thunderbolts, a movie that shapes a prominent parallel future for the studio. The movie, with all the anti-heroes packed in one film, had Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and others in attendance. Kevin Feige revealed the trailer of the film to the audience, who were all pumped up. The trailer even featured the Avengers Tower with Val, which is a pretty interesting twist because we have been curious to know what happens to the establishment. "That's the joy of watching them together," said Florence Pugh on the team dynamic. The league will also be seen in the Avengers movies as per the update.
Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts stars Harrison Ford as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent John Walker, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, and Geraldine Viswanathan. The film is set to release on May 5, 2025.
The Fantastic Four is one of the most anticipated movies, and even the makers know that. So, when Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn took center stage at Comic-Con, everyone knew something big was planned. And there indeed was. The movie will now be called The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The new title was revealed with a special reel that worked as a teaser. It introduced the retro/futuristic 60s vibe and Galactus, who serves as the big cosmic villain alongside Silver Surfer.
What is even more exciting is that the team begins shooting for the movie next Tuesday. But that was not all. It was also confirmed that The Fantastic Four will be seen in both the Avengers movies after their solo flick, which is set to release on July 25, 2025, exactly a year from now.
Who could have thought that the wildest update from Comic-Con this year would bring Robert Downey Jr. back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Kevin Feige teasing his return meant something, but none of us guessed it would mean the hero turns into a villain. The Iron Man fame has rejoined the MCU as Doctor Doom and will be the main villain, the big bad, for the fifth Avengers movie, now titled Avengers: Doomsday. He even made an appearance at Comic-Con dressed as Doctor Doom with all the theatrics involved.
Rumors already had it that after going through a long list of directors and writers, the MCU bosses have finally chosen the Russo Brothers to direct the Avengers films. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will now be directed by the Russos, who also directed Avengers: Endgame and Avengers: Infinity War for the studio. The filmmaker duo is also bringing with them their trusted writer, Stephen McFeely, to write the script for both the new Avengers movies. Meanwhile, the studio even shared the new logo for Secret Wars, now in fiery red and orange shades.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in May 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars in May 2027. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
