JioCinema has annonced the digital premiere of the Tamil movie Thugs on May 20. Directed by choreographer Brinda in her debut directorial venture, Thugs is a remake of the acclaimed Malayalam film Swathanthryam Ardharathriyil (Freedom at Midnight).
The film revolves around a diverse group of convicts who find themselves compelled to collaborate in their quest for freedom. Despite coming from different backgrounds and having been convicted of various crimes, their shared determination to escape binds them together. Along their journey, they must confront formidable challenges, including prison guards, fellow inmates, and the harsh realities of confinement. Will their unyielding spirit be enough to break free from the clutches of captivity?
From the trailer, it's clear that Brinda has remained faithful to the essence of the original film. The aesthetics, including the well-crafted slow-motion shots, are retained in this Tamil remake. The movie features an impressive cast including Bobby Simha, RK Suresh, Hrishu Haroon, Anaswara Rajan, and Munishkanth in lead roles.
Thugs is a Lyca Productions venture, with Sukumar handling the cinematography and Praveen Antony taking charge of the editing. The music score is composed by Sam CS.
While Thugs may not have made a significant impact at the box office, it has garnered praise for its adrenaline-pumping action sequences and technical prowess.
