Kamal Haasan, the legendary actor is set to team up with veteran filmmaker for the second time in his career, for the upcoming film Thug Life. The project marks the celebrated actor-director duo’s second onscreen collaboration, after the 1987-released cult-classic film Nayakan. Now, after the long gap of 37 years, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam are reuniting for the former’s KH 234th outing in the film industry.
Thug Life, which is touted to be an out-and-out action thriller, garnered the attention of audiences with the promising announcement teaser. Now the sources close to the project have dropped some exciting updates on Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam’s ambitious project.
Thug Life to start rolling by the end of January
The highly anticipated project, which was officially announced in 2022, is finally set to go on floors after extensive pre-production that lasted over a year. If the latest updates are to be believed, Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam are now planning to kickstart the shooting of Thug Life by the last week of January 2024. The reports also suggest that the team is planning to have a grand launch event for the multi-starrer in Chennai, before beginning the filming. An official announcement on the same is expected to be out in a few days.
Siddharth’s revelations about Thug Life
In his recent interview with Film Companion, Siddharth, who is the former direction assistant of Mani Ratnam dropped some exciting updates about Thug Life. Interestingly, the Chithha actor revealed that the legendary actor and director decided to do something different with the much-celebrated announcement promo of the film and shot it in reverse. Well, this revelation has clearly raised the expectations over the film, which boasts of a stellar cast and crew.

Kamal Haasan is playing the central character Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar in the Mani Ratnam directorial. Trisha Krishnan is playing the female lead in the project, which stars Dulquer Salmaan and Jayam Ravi in the key roles. The project also stars a stellar supporting cast including Gautham Karthik and Abhirami, along with many others. AR Rahman composes the music. Ravi K Chandran is the director of photography. A Sreekar Prasad handles the editing. Thug Life is jointly produced by Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International and Mani Ratnam’s Madras Talkies.
