Thudarum trailer: Mohanlal returns as vintage Lalettan with Shobana in Tharun Moorthy’s film

Lucifer star Mohanlal is all set to take the box office by storm as his Empuraan hits theatres on March 27, 2025. But before you plunge into the dark world of Khureshi Ab’raam, Mohanlal has offered a glimpse of Thudarum, which also stars Shobana. Take a look at the Thudarum trailer, which assures fans that a family drama is on the cards.

Mohanlal joined hands with Tharun Moorthy for Thudarum, which narrates the tale of Shanmugham, a taxi driver. The Thudarum trailer begins with Mohanlal recounting his school days, when a maths teacher used to trouble them during their free hours and 'humiliate' by making the students stand outside for getting the problems wrong. The trailer then cuts to show some 'clash' moments between Mohanlal and Shobana, who play husband and wife.

The 1.57-minute trailer has references to popular Mohanlal films, and even takes a jab at social media discussions around Mohanlal's beard. As the Shanmugham, the taxi driver, urges the schoolkids to get into his ambassador car, he shouts 'Go to your classes' (wink to fans of Aye auto).

The final scenes of the trailer show Mohanlal making an emotional plea to 'Kutticha' that everyone has left him out in the rain.

Overall, the Thudarum trailer promises that Tharun Moorthy will bring the vintage Lalettan back to the screens, away from the noise and grandeur of multi-starrer movies such as Empuraan.

Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, and Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew are also part of the film.

Thudarum release delay

Thudarum was earlier reported to release on January 30, 2025, as Mohanlal’s first theatrical release of the year. However, the film failed to hit theatres then, with the OTT deal rumoured to be the cause for the delay. The Tharun Moorthy directorial recently secured the U/A censor certificate from the authorities. Thudarum is now set to release in May 2025.

As per the censor certificate, Thudarum revolves around taxi driver Shanmugham, who has a special attachment to his old ambassador car. But those around him do not share Shanmugham’s feelings. Set in a hill town in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta, the film promises to delve into family bonds, life in a small town and the highs and lows of everyday life.

Shobana, who has been paired with Mohanlal in several popular films, returns to Malayalam cinema after a hiatus with Thudarum. Seeing their favourite stars reunite on screen is one of the most exciting aspects of Thudarum.

The film is helmed by Tharun Moorthy, who has done notable films such as Operation Java and the acclaimed Saudi Vellakka.
