Mohanlal-starrer Thudarum’s trailer was unveiled on March 26, 2025. Within minutes of the trailer landing online, fans took to social media to celebrate the Thudarum glimpse but also raised suspicions on whether director Tharun Moorthy is hiding something under the garb of all those feel-good moments. Will Thudarum take the Drishyam route? Let’s dissect the Thudarum trailer to see if it stands the argument.

Mohanlal’s Thudarum to follow Drishyam model?

The Thudarum trailer began by introducing Lucifer star Mohanlal as Shanmugham, with his mischievous smile and playful interactions with wife Lalitha (the ever-lovely Shobana). The trailer is peppered with fun dialogues and beautiful moments, that almost look like a feel-good drama. Or is it? The trailer also features scenes from a police station, with Mohanlal asking the officer about his beloved ambassador car. The final moments also feature an emotional Shanmugham, telling Kuttichan that he didn’t choose to be out in the rain but was made to!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Drishyam world, the first part also began with lovely moments between Mohanlal’s Georgekutty and Rani (Meena), and their two daughters. These happy family moments fill out most of the first-half before a crime is committed at their house, and Georgekutty goes all out to protect his family from the cops.

The Thudarum trailer that ends with the fiery look on Mohanlal’s face has sparked discussions about whether the Tharun Moorthy directorial will attempt something akin to Drishyam, directed by Jeethu Joseph.

Fans suspect Tharun is ‘cooking something’

After watching Thudarum trailer, fans commented that it doesn’t seem like Thudarum will be a typical feel-good-family drama. One netizen went ahead and said it is ‘a movie like Drishyam’.

During one of his recent interviews with Baradwaj Rangan for Galatta Plus, Mohanlal himself had spoken about Thudarum being a ‘very Drishyam-kind of film’.

All in all, with the Drishyam vibes, Thudarum trailer has piqued the interest of Lalettan fans who are hoping that Mohanlal will deliver a blockbuster film yet again with the Tharun Moorthy directorial.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal's Empuraan, the second instalment in the Lucifer franchise, will release in theatres on March 27.
