While the Mollywood biggies might be giving this Onam season a miss, they will be coming with full force to conquer the box office in a battle reminiscent of the 90s, during the pooja holiday season. Mammootty, Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi have their films – Rorschach, Monster and Mei Hoom Moosa – gearing up for release.
As of now, only Suresh Gopi’s Mei Hoom Moosa has been confirmed for a September 30 release. The movie, which will have the Paappan actor in two get-ups, is a big budget venture helmed by Vellimoonga and Ellam Sheriyaakum director Jibu Jacob. Poonam Bajwa, Saiju Kurup and Srindaa play pivotal characters in the film, which spans several periods and was shot in Kerala, Delhi and Punjab.
Considering the reception of Suresh Gopi’s Paappan, which is on its way to become the highest-grossing film in the superstar’s career, the makers of Mei Hoom Moosa will be expecting to continue that hot streak with this film too.
Mammootty’s Rorschach, which is helmed by Kettyolaanu Ente Malakha filmmaker Nissam Basheer, was initially set to hit theatres during Onam, but opted out due to an already-crowded season that will see the release of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Gold, Biju Menon’s Oru Thekkan Thallu Case, Basil Joseph’s Paaltu Jaanwar, Nivin Pauly’s Padavettu and Siju Wilson’s Pathonpathaam Noottaandu. The thriller, which was shot in Kerala and Dubai, is now aiming at a September 30 release. The film also has Sharafudheen, Grace Antony and Bindu Panicker in pivotal roles.
Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s next theatrical release after Aaraattu will be Monster, which marks his second film with Pulimurugan director and scriptwriter duo Vysakh and Udaykrishna. The movie, which is an experimental investigative thriller, has him playing the role of Lucky Singh and also has Lakshmi Manchu, Sudev Nair and Honey Rose in pivotal roles. The superstar will also have a direct-to-OTT release prior to the release of Monster, with Shaji Kailas’ Alone set to drop on a streaming platform soon.
