Chris Hemsworth’s latest rendition as the snazzy God of Thunder has earned incredible box office rewards for the makers. Thor: God of Thunder saw Hemsworth reunite with Taika Waititi for the fourth installment of the Thor series with the film grossing over $650 million worldwide. However, there’s another interesting (and unsought) feat that the film has managed to own which Marvel Studios would surely wish to do away with!

According to the latest reports, Thor: Love and Thunder has secured the lowest Rotten Tomatoes rating among all the four installments of the series. While the latest release wasn’t unanimously rubbished by the global critics, the film has still fallen short of making the same impact as the previous iterations – Thor: Love and Thunder currently boasts of a 66% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Interestingly, Love and Thunder is tied with one of its predecessors, the 2013 film Thor: The Dark World (directed by Alan Taylor).

Thor: Love and Thunder sees the titular character’s uncanny quest for inner peace but his “retirement” is disturbed upon the arrival of Gorr the God Butcher (played by the stealthiest Christian Bale). Natalie Portman reprises her role as Jane Foster with Tessa Thompson, Russell Crowe, and Taika Waititi playing key roles in the film.

The OTTplay review highlights the quirks and tonal shifts that Taika Waititi brought into the franchise but also reflects on the fact that his latest script lacks enough substance to make the film a riveting watch. He co-wrote the script with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Sweet/Vicious, Someone Great, etc.)

Waititi’s association with the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with Thor: Ragnarok which received glowing reviews from the audiences and critics alike.

As far as the Rotten Tomatoes ratings are concerned, the 2021 film Eternals (starring Angelina Jolie, Harry Styles, Kit Harrington, and others) currently holds the status of being the least favored project among all the MCU films. Eternals has a 47% rating on the site.
