Scream VII is witnessing a major shuffle amidst the exodus of some of the leading contributors with director Christopher Landon’s latest addition to the list after Jenna Ortega's exit. The ‘Happy Death Day’ was the shocking announcement on social media on Saturday.

Scream VII horror franchise director exits

It seems as if the curse is getting darker with the third significant team member exiting the cast and crew. Previously, Jenna Ortega had announced that she wouldn’t be a part of Scream VII due to the shooting schedule of Wednesday's sequel. Her move came a day after the firing of her co-star Melissa Barrera over her antisemitic social media posts. Today marks the third exit from the horror franchise as Christopher Landon, who was directing the seventh installment announced his ‘heart-breaking’ decision on X.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), Landon revealed that he exited Scream 7 weeks ago and the move might have mixed reactions from people.

“I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited ‘Scream 7’ weeks ago. This will disappoint some and delight others”, a part of his tweet read.

The horror-thriller film expert, who directed several films like Freaky (2020), Burning Palms (2010), and Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) revealed that his move is quite heartbreaking but he is moving on.

“It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on,” he shared.

Expressing gratitude over his time with the franchise, he thanked the team and also lauded director Wes Craven for his efforts. “I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their glow,” he further added.

For the unversed, Spyglass producer of Scream, had severed all ties with the Scream 5 and 6 star, Melissa Barrera over the “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” remarks, citing the Israel-Hamas war conflict. Amid the row of “hateful content,” Spyglass dropped Melissa by firing her from the seventh installment in November.

Scream is a horror slasher film franchise that revolves around the multiple murders by the disguised ghost face killer. It also starred Courteney Cox, and Roger L. Jackson in pivotal roles with new and recurring cast in different parts.

The upcoming installment is currently under the influence of writer-producer James Vanderbilt, who is working on the script.
