Mohanlal makes his directorial debut with Barroz, which is a highly anticipated fantasy movie for children. There has been a lot of curiosity surrounding the film, and the actor-director has revealed that post-production work on the film is currently underway in various locations around the world.

He also said that Barroz is slated to release in theatres in December 2023.

"Barroz is currently being re-recorded in Budapest; some portions were previously recorded in Los Angeles. The visual effects have been completed in various parts of India and Thailand. Based on the pace of the work, I can say that audiences can expect to watch Barroz in theatres in December," he told Manorama News in an interview.

Mohanlal also spoke about his upcoming film, Malaikottai Vaaliban, which is directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery. He shared that the film has been treated in a Western style and can be perceived as either a mass or spiritual film, depending on the individual viewer's perspective.

"We have high expectations for Malaikottai Vaaliban. The film has been given a Western treatment, and its music, colour patterns, and action sequences are standouts. This has never before been attempted or seen in Malayalam films. The movie is made on a huge canvas, and Lijo has done a good job," Mohanlal added.

Barroz had encountered various hurdles, such as the pandemic and some alterations to the script. When writer Jijo Punnoose walked out of the film due to some disagreements, Mohanlal and TK Rajeev Kumar rewrote the script. The movie was originally planned to be released during Onam but was later delayed.

Recently, a pre-visualisation of Barroz was released, which included impressive martial arts scenes. Jay Jay Jakrit, who has worked with Mohanlal on Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, has directed the action sequences for the film.

It has been reported that Barroz, which has been funded by Aashirvad Cinemas, was made on a budget of ₹100 crore.

Mohanlal plays a 400-year-old ghost in the film who is responsible for guarding a valuable treasure. Guru Somasundaram and several foreign actors are part of the cast.
