Keyser Söze may be a mythical figure but his influence on pop culture is so prominent that the name is now almost a defined part of our everyday vocabulary.
Created by Christopher McQuarrie and brought to life by Bryan Singer, Söze is, of course, the chief antagonist of the 1995 film 'The Usual Suspects', whose central cast includes several noteworthy names like Kevin Spacey, Gabriel Byrne, Kevin Pollak, Chazz Palminteri, Benicio del Toro, Stephen Baldwin and several others. 'The Usual Suspects' is arguably among the most loved and referred-to films of the past three decades and the film is currently streaming on Netflix India.
The film, in essence, is about the interrogation of the small-time crook Roger "Verbal" Kint (Spacey), who is held by Agent Dave Kujan (Palminteri) for being one of the only two survivors (out of six) of a fire accident on a ship. The cops have only recently discovered 27 dead bodies and Kujan's probe into the matter reveals that a certain Turkish crime lord named Keyser Söze is somehow linked to a series of convoluted events. However, there's lots more to what meets the eye and it would be a crime in itself to divulge more about the plot of 'The Usual Suspects'.
But the clock's ticking for those who wish to stream the movie on the said platform because, in only a matter of a few days, Netflix India plans on purging the title from its vast database. It is, of course, part of the streamer's usual routine of clearing out films owing to licencing agreements and 'The Usual Suspects', as a result, will leave the platform on December 31st. So, if you wish to end 2023 with a thrill and a gasp, then this is your public service announcement.
Also leaving Netflix India in a matter of days are Bong Joon-ho's horror/sci-fi thriller 'The Host' (leaving on December 29, 2023) and Sean Penn's gritty neo-noir 'The Pledge (leaving on January 14, 2024), which stars the one and only Jack Nicholson.
