Music composer-singer GV Prakash Kumar has had four releases, as an actor, since December last year—Bachelor, Jail, Selfie and Ayngaran. If you take a close look at his filmography, you see him not stick to a particular genre. He looks for “something different every time”, something he has not done earlier. Prakash started by doing a string of comedy entertainers, followed by the performance-driven ones.

He tells The New Indian Express, "Now, I am just particular about the concept dealt with and how the screenplay is written. It's similar to how I go about composing music for other films. I am still in the process of figuring out my space. I have been getting good responses of late and I think I will hit the bullseye soon," adds Prakash.

Speaking about being typecast as the go-to actor for the 'toxic, college student' roles, Prakash tells Cinema Express that he will break such notions. “For instance, there was a time when Fahadh Faasil was consistently doing toxic roles in Malayalam cinema. So, it's a phase. Moreover, it is not easy to play such roles," he clarifies.

Prakash says that this set of films has allowed him to experiment and try newer methods of acting. “I have started to get into the modern school of acting with films like Bachelor and Selfie. I am trying to do a subtler type of acting that operates within a set metre. People earlier were looking at me as a boy-next-door, and now, with these intense characters, it's a bit different. I want to keep stepping out of being typecast!”

On the music direction front, GV Prakash is eagerly awaiting the release of Vaadivaasal, featuring Suriya in the lead. The film directed by Vetrimaaran, based on a novel, has a story centred around the bull-taming sport of jallikattu.

Also, he's upbeat about composing music for the Hindi remake of Soorarai Pottru, which has Akshay Kumar. "I am on a high, and I don't know where it is taking me," he tells Cinema Express, hinting at a project in Telugu with Ravi Teja.

Prakash finds working in other languages to be exciting. "Even as an actor, I hope to work in other languages. The exposure it offers and the newer environments I get to work in are aspects I look forward to. Actors need that fresh air to deliver something new," he tells Cinema Express. This is another reason why he believes in the recent trend of OTT releases and pan-Indian films.

Prakash's other films as a music director include Vishal-SJ Suryah-starrer, Mark Antony. The film is directed by Adhik Ravichandran, whose debut was the 2015 Trisha Illana Nayanthara (that headlined GV Prakash himself).

On the acting front, Prakash has Idi Muzhakkam (directed by Seenu Ramasamy's direction), Rebel (directed by Nikesh RS), Vanakkam Da Mappilei (directed by Rajesh), an untitled film with Akhilan, Kadhalikka Yarumillai (directed by debutant Kamal Prakash), and so on.
