Kollywood fans are eagerly awaiting the Pongal festival in Tamil Nadu which happens in the second week of January as Ajith's Thunivu and Vijay's Varisu are locking horns with each other. The latter has been bankrolled by Tollywood producer Dil Raju. He has been in the news frequently for his controversial statements on the stardom of Ajith and Vijay.
The leading producer had announced a while ago that he will be releasing Vaarasudu, the Telugu version of Varisu, in a maximum number of theatres in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This led to fans of Chiranjeevi and Balakrishna getting miffed as the two Telugu stars' movies are also arriving during the festival.
Now, in an unexpected turn of events, Dil Raju has bought the theatrical rights of Thegimpu, the Telugu version of Ajith's Thunivu. He will be releasing the movie in Vizag and Nizam territories which belong to Andhra and Telangana respectively.
Interestingly, Red Giant Movies, which has bought the film's theatrical rights in Tamil Nadu, will be distributing Vijay's Varisu in a few areas like Chennai, Chengalpet, North Arcot and South Arcot. It looks like Udhayanidhi's Red Giant Movies and Dil Raju have agreed to support each other.
A couple of weeks ago, Raju said that he would meet Udhayanidhi to request more screens for Varisu in Tamil Nadu as the film's hero Vijay is a bigger star than Ajith. The producer faced severe backlash on social media, but he did not bother to take back his remark.
Fans of Ajith are now looking forward to know how many screens would be allotted to Thegimpu. Netflix has acquired the movie's digital rights a while ago.
