In 2021, Brendan Fraser and filmmaker Darren Aronofsky got together for a rather unlikely collaboration on The Whale and since then, there's been no looking back for the duo. Fraser, under the guidance of the very discerning and equally unorthodox Aronofsky, was able to channel what could be termed his most heartwarming and challenging performance to date and win the hearts of millions across the world as a result.

As the precariously obese English professor Charlie, who, at a pivotal point in his life, decides on mending the relationship with his estranged daughter, Brendan Fraser won several accolades from critics, including the coveted Oscar and was recently awarded Best Actor at the 95th Academy Awards. This is Fraser's maiden Academy Award in his very first nomination.

Michelle Yeoh won the Oscar for Best Actress for her as Evelyn Quan Wang in Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert's Everything Everywhere All at Once

Following this tremendous achievement and a highly encouraging theatrical run across the world, The Whale is all set to premiere on OTT. The film will debut exclusively on Sony LIV on March 16th, 2023. Sony Liv is now a part of the OTTplay Premium bouquet of platforms.

Aside from winning in the Best Actor category, The Whale picked up its second Oscar for Best Makeup & Hairstyling with Anne Marie Bradley's stellar work getting much-deserved recognition. Fraser was transformed into the 600-pound character through a rigorous process and much of the 'gravitas' and nuance of his performance could be attributed to the incredible hair and makeup work.

Many have regarded The Whale as Brendan Fraser's bona fide return to acting and have even termed the stellar transformation as his 'Brenaissance'. The actor, too, has shared on multiple occasions that he was able to channel his own vulnerabilities into the performance and also imbue it with a sense of empathy.

The Whale also stars Sadie Sink, Ty Simpkins, Hong Chau and Samantha Morton.
