The Unlikely Murderer release date: When and where to watch the true crime series

The popular streaming platform Netflix has got a niche fan base of true crime and it just got another crime drama added to the titles’ galore in the genre. The Unlikely Murderer, helmed by Swedish filmmakers Charlotte Brändström and Simon Kaijser, will drop on the platform soon. Wilhelm Behrman and Niklas Rockström have written the mini-series that is drawn from the book of the same name by Thomas Pettersson.

What is the plot of the series?

The five-part mini-series is a fictional account of the probable assassinator of the Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme. The Prime Minister was shot in 1986 in Central Stockholm, when he was walking home with his wife Lisbeth. The man who was initially convicted for the crime, Christer Pettersson was eventually acquitted and it then became widely regarded that the graphic designer Stig Engström was the killer. But after his death in 2000, the truth of the night is still left hanging.

When will the true-crime series release?

The mini-series will premiere on the platform on November 5 at 12.30 pm IST. All five episodes will drop on the platform on the same day.

Who is the cast?

Robert Gustafsson, Peter Andersson, Mikael Persbrandt, Björn Bengtsson, Joel Spira, Shanti Roney, Torkel Petersson, Emil Almén and Eva Melander will be seen in important roles.

The official trailer of the series was dropped on the Youtube channel of Netflix recently. The trailer sweeps right into the dark context of the murder of Olof Palme on a night in 1986. And the brunt of the suspicion squarely falls on the graphic designer Stig Engström, who shifts narratives and seems to be an unreliable suspect and faces the heat of many interrogations and media interviews. The end of the trailer shows Engström’s friend cracking a joke about the graphic designer’s possible culpability, saying, “We both know you are going to get caught sooner or later,” as the frame fades from Stig’s face.
