The trailer of the new action comedy The Union, starring Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry, just dropped. The film, which is coming to Netflix on August 16, has Berry as a top spy Roxanne for an agency called The Union, a top secret and unorthodox government agency that does all the dirty work for the CIA and the FBI. The Union’s called into action when a list of all the active US spies is leaked, to retrieve which, they need a literal nobody. A nobody they can trust, who’s street smart and not book smart.

For this, Roxanne ‘recruits’ her former high school sweetheart Mike (Wahlberg), whom she’d not seen in 25 years. A construction worker Mike is the right man for the job, according to her, so she drugs him and brings him to London – his first time outside of the tri-state area - where he is trained to be thrown into the world of high-stakes espionage. But can he pull off the job?
Directed by Julian Farino, The Union also stars JK Simmons, Mike Colter, Jackie Earle Haley, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alice Lee, Jessica De Gouw and James McMenamin, among others. Initially called Our Man from Jersey, the story of The Union evolved after Berry was cast, Wahlberg has been quoted as saying. The film became more about a guy who’d do anything to impress the love of his life. He’s also been very vocal about what a joy it was working with the Oscar wining actress.
Wahlberg, who describes Mike as a blue-collar James Bond, says that it was easy for him to follow Berry around like a puppy. He added that the highlight of The Union is that it has a good balance of humour and action, which relies on the chemistry of the lead pair.
