Movie icon Kamal Haasan is one of the most influential filmmakers in Indian cinema. Kamal has inspired many to become filmmakers. And Lokesh Kanagaraj and Gautham Menon are among them. Self-proclaimed die-hard fans of Kamal, both have achieved the distinction of being a fan of the superstar and later went on to direct landmark films in Kamal's career.

Gautham helmed Kamal in Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu and it ended up becoming one of the most memorable cop film/serial killer movies ever produced in Tamil cinema. The enduring popularity of the film was evident during its recent re-release, as it garnered an overwhelming response from fans at the Tamil Nadu box office.

In light of the success of the film's re-release, a fan wondered who was the biggest 'fan boy' of Kamal between Gautham and Lokesh. And Lokesh quickly chimed in by generously saying, "No doubt about it. It's Gautham sir."

And Gautham responded to Lokesh with the same magnanimity and humorously conceded that Lokesh had surpassed him to become the new "No 1 fan boy" of Kamal Haasan. "‘Was’ Until you and ‘Nayagan meendum varaan’ came. #Vikram I have to try and rise above that. Will be a good challenge @Dir_lokesh Aana Intha sandaiyila satta kizhiyaadhu… Only Love," GVM tweeted.

Lokesh reciprocated the love and respect, expressing his excitement and exhilaration at the response to the re-release of Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. He extended his well-wishes to Kamal Haasan, mentioning his other film Anbe Sivam, and added, "Loads of love and power to our #Ulaganayagan @ikamalhaasan sir #AnbeSivam."

Lokesh directed Kamal in last year's blockbuster Vikram. Released in cinemas to packed houses, the movie emerged as the biggest hit in Kamal's career spanning six decades. The movie went on to earn more than Rs 500 crore from its worldwide ticket sales.

Lokesh has also directed Gautham in the upcoming movie Leo . Starring Thalapathy Vijay in the lead, Guatham has played a key role in the action drama.
