The trailer of R Madhavan’s film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect was screened at the NASDAQ Billboard at Times Square in New York recently. The actor-filmmaker, who's on a 10-day promotional tour to promote his film in the US, posted a video of the event on his Instagram account.
Madhavan has written, produced, and directed; besides starring in Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, which is based on the life of the ISRO engineer Nambi Narayan, who was also present at Times Square.
“It is all very surreal. Time has gone by so quickly. It feels like it was only yesterday we were shooting the film and here we are, a few days away from the release... Screening the trailer on the world’s most coveted billboard! With God’s grace, I’m thankful for all the love and affection we have received so far. We are looking forward to seeing you in the theatres on July 1," R Madhavan said.
The actor will portray Nambi, then the head of ISRO's cryogenic division who was falsely charged with espionage and arrested in 1994. In 1998, the Supreme Court dismissed all charges against him.
Rocketry will be released worldwide on July 1. The movie also stars Phyllis Logan, Vincent Riotta, and Ron Donachie. In the Hindi and Tamil versions of the film, Shah Rukh Khan and Suriya will make special appearances.
The movie has been shot in three languages, Hindi, Tamil and English. Madhavan underwent an intense physical transformation for the role, and according to sources, the only artificial addition to the transformation was greying his hair for the character.
The estimated cost of Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is over Rs 100 crore. Simran will play the female lead, and it marks a reunion for her with Madhavan on-screen after 15 years.
Madhavan was at the Cannes Film Festival 2022 recently, for the premiere of his film Rocketry: The Nambi Effect. Speaking about the film, in an interview with Film Companion, Madhavan said, he didn’t make any money during COVID, and even in the two years before COVID because he was doing this.
“To keep the fires burning, I have taken on OTT work but I haven't done any feature films. My last one was Vikram Vedha. In terms of strength, my wife was an awesome support. She told me she has never seen me so happy in my life. I was tired, frustrated, but I was sleeping with a smile on my face.”
Rocketry is co-directed by Prajesh Sen, who helmed the Malayalam project, Vellam. The film is shot by Sreejesh Rai, the editing is by Bijith Bala, and the music is composed by Sam CS of Saani Kaayidham fame.
