The Six Triple Eight is an upcoming American war drama inspired by the real-life story of the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion. Written, directed, and produced by Tyler Perry, the Six Triple Eight is based on the article Fighting A Two-Front War by Kevin M Hymel, which was published in WWII History Magazine by Sovereign Media.

The Six Triple Eight headed to Netflix on...

The drama, starring Kerry Washington, Sam Waterston as President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Dean Norris, Susan Sarandon as Eleanor Roosevelt, Oprah Winfrey as Mary McLeod Bethune), Ebony Obsidian, Milauna Jackson, Kylie Jefferson, Shanice Shantay, among many others, is getting a limited theatrical release in the United States on December 6, following which it will drop on Netflix on December 20.

Kerry Washington plays Major Charity Adams, who led the 6888’s in their overseas deployment, as the first and only Women’s Army Corp unit of color to be stationed in Europe during World War II. A total of 855 women were given a seemingly impossible task – work through a backlog of mail of 3 years, with 17 million pieces to sort and dispatch. They were given 6 months to get the job done and provided little to no amenities while at it.

In buildings with no proper lighting or heating, Major Adams led the women to work in three shifts of 8 hours each, and not only delivered on the task at hand but in far less time than the allotted 6 months. 90 days was all it took for the women of 6888 to ensure that the soldiers heard from their loved ones and vice versa and boosted the morale of the troops.

In a recently released trailer, Washington’s Major Adams says “They did not send us because they thought we could do it; we are here because they are sure we cannot. We are no strangers to making a shack a home. We are at war, and when you are at war, you make do.”
