"It’s meant to show we care about what’s going on and have enormous sympathy for the people of Ukraine and want this to stop," said The Simpsons creator Al Jean.

The Simpsons have released a new image where the animated cartoon family is holding Ukraine's flag in solidarity with the country's fight against Russian invasion.
In the image, a solemn-looking Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie can be seen raising the flag. Along with the cartoon still, the tweet reads, "#TheSimpsons #Simpsons #Ukraine."
The show's creator Al Jean told Deadline that while taking a political stand is not common to the show, they do this "only very rarely when there’s something… extremely important for a cause that could not be bigger."
"It’s meant to show we care about what’s going on and have enormous sympathy for the people of Ukraine and want this to stop," Jean further explained.
Animator and director David Silverman, who has been a part of The Simpsons since 1989, has drawn the still.

The writers of the show have a reputation for predicting world events from Donald Trump's presidency to Richard Branson's space trip. An episode titled "Simpson Tide" from 1988 depicted a similar situation taking place in Ukraine.
