The Signal is dropping on Netflix this Spring, and it features a rather interesting cast, comprising of some international yet familiar faces. Based on an idea by Nadine Gottmann and Sebastian Hilger, The Signal was directed by Philipp Leinemann and Hilger himself, while the screenplay saw Kim Zimmerman, actor Florian David Fitz and Gottman herself in charge.
Produced by Bon Voyage Films GmbH (aka German Motion Picture Fund, a government funding program that produced the film), The Signal releases March 7, 2024, on Netflix, as a four-part limited series. The show dropped its teaser trailer on January 12 and its official trailer was shared an hour ago by Tudum.
The trailer as well as its previous teaser trailer unify to paint a harmonious yet tense portrait for the viewers with its thrilling and mysterious science fiction premise. Paula is an astronaut on her way back home from the International Space Station, while her family waits to pick her up. However, she never makes it back to earth and her disappearance becomes an oppressive mystery for her husband Sven and daughter Charlie to solve.
The only hint of clue left with the family, a signal, a form of communication with Charlie, as well as the information of Paula discovering “something up there”, leads the father-daughter duo into unfathomable danger and entangling mysteries, that may even be of extra-terrestrial proportions. Now, Sven and Charlie must race against all odds to locate Paula and perhaps even save the earth.
Starring the likes of Florian David Fitz of Jesus Loves Me as Sven, The Last Kingdom actress Peri Baumeister essays the role of our protagonist astronaut, Paula, while their daughter Charlie is portrayed by Hard Feelings actress Yuna Bennett. Beloved Indian actress Sheeba Chadha of Doctor G, Rabia & Olivia, and Dum Laga Ke Haisha fame, also makes her German debut with the role of Benisha Mudhi in the show.
