The world of horror movies has grown exponentially, and the fact that Stree 2 in India has managed to amass a business as massive as some of the biggest films made on much larger budgets than the Shraddha Kapoor film is remarkable. However, anyone who has seen Stree 2 certainly hasn't been able to stop talking about it, and the film has indeed left a lingering taste. So naturally, the craving for more horror content will make you look out for other options. It turns out Lionsgate Play has heard you and is now prepared to give you more horror in their next set of releases. The streamer will be re-releasing the 2020 movie The Rental on the platform, and this is the same spooky Jeremy Allen White starrer horror movie that made headlines during the pandemic.
Lionsgate Play has released some of the most interesting movies in the last two months, more than ever before. In July alone, the streamer gave us Room, Logan Lucky, The Arcadian, Replicas, Adrift, and The Iron Law. Before that, there was Dream Scenario, Copshop, BME, and much more. Everything featured the biggest stars and potent content. The Rental now joins the same list and is set to release on the streaming platform soon.
Directed by Dave Franco, The Rental stars Dan Stevens, Alison Brie, Sheila Vand, and Jeremy Allen White in leading roles. The movie is mentioned in the upcoming releases on Lionsgate Play, although no release date has been attached yet. However, it is probable that the film will release in September. Once it's out, you can watch it with your OTTplay Premium subscription.
According to Collider, Dave Franco had said that the idea for The Rental came from his personal paranoia about the concept of home-sharing. "We trust staying in the home of a stranger simply because of a few positive reviews online. In reality, while we were filming the movie, there were new articles coming out every week about homeowners putting cameras in their place. [...] We are all aware of the risks of staying in a stranger's home, but we never think anything bad will actually happen to us," he said.
Jeremy Allen White, who plays one of the most interesting roles in the film, said, "When I read it, I was just rooting for Josh, I guess, the whole time. I really saw this guy who really wanted to be better. He’s dating this woman who I think is way out of his league. She’s beautiful and intelligent, and I think he’s got some self-esteem issues, probably because of his older brother. Then he goes on this trip with them, and I feel like he’s getting a little bit beat down. I think I was kind of attracted to this tragic character who’s trying to get better. But, of course, it doesn’t work out his way."
