It's been 10 days since the release of The Railway Men on Netflix, Yash Raj Films' first OTT series. The show, directed by debutant Shiv Rawail and based on the 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy, talks about four men and how their lives intertwined against the backdrop of the incident, which still has its repercussions. It's natural to say that while filming the series, you realise the gravity of the tragedy that happened about four decades ago and became a topic of discussion globally.
Realising the gravity of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy
During an exclusive interaction with OTTplay, when Babil Khan, who plays Imad in the series, was asked about when he realised the magnitude of the tragedy, the actor stated, "When I started, actually, before Shiv brought this, I only knew about the tragedy through general knowledge and statistics. That doesn't make you feel as much. But when I was researching for the character, I went there and I went to the basti, and I saw that people that weren't even there at that time, but through generations, that gas has somehow been passed on, and people that weren't there are still victims of it. That's when it started settling within me the magnitude of what had happened."
It's been a year since Babil made his acting debut. All three projects, including Qala, Friday Night Plan, and The Railway Men, are streaming on Netflix, and the young actor has been praised for his acting skills. When asked about choosing the intense roles at the beginning of his career and how he thinks of his journey as of now, Babil revealed that he is enjoying the process totally.
Career path and current enjoyment
The actor revealed, "I don't; I just don't. I don't sit and analyse my journey. I think it's not extremely important. This is the way I've been brought up. The more you sit and think about where life is taking you, the less you are letting life take you. So just let life take you; I don't know where I'm headed. I don't know where I'm going. I'm just really enjoying it right now."
The Railway Men also stars Kay Kay Menon, R. Madhavan, and Divyenndu in the lead roles.
