With plenty of releases in Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada and Telugu on OTT platforms, the audiences are in for a treat this week

With the second wave of COVID-19 prompting audiences to stay away from theatres, filmmakers are once again aiming at OTT releases. In fact, in the past few days, a staggering number of South Indian films already got digital releases.
Audiences are spoilt for choice as several Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films featuring superstars and belonging to various genres have got an OTT release in the past week.
Here's a list of some of the top movies to pick from:
Mandela (Tamil)
Yogi Babu's Mandela released on Netflix a few days ago. The film, which is a political satire, released in theatres at the time of elections in Tamil Nadu and became an instant hit among people.
Paramapadham Vilayattu (Tamil)
The thriller Paramapadham Vilayattu, is inspired by the death of J Jayalalithaa. For the uninformed, she was one of the most influential politicians in the State who served 14 years as the Chief Minister. The movie, featuring Trisha as the CM, released on Disney+ Hotstar on April 14.
Mathil (Tamil)
Mathil is a Zee5 original film. Starring KS Ravikumar, Mime Gopi, Madhumita, Kathadi Ramamurthy and Lollu Sabha Swaminathan in pivotal roles, it is the story of a common man who refuses to let his compound wall be used for election campaigning. The film released on April 14.
Anbirkiniyal (Tamil)
The Tamil remake of the Malayalam film Helen, Anbirkiniyal is the story of a woman who gets accidentally locked in the cold storage of a restaurant. You can catch the film, starring Keerthi Pandian, C Arunpandian and Praveen Raja in lead roles, on Amazon Prime Video.
Jathi Ratnalu (Telugu)
Jathi Ratnalu is among the most popular Telugu comedies on OTT right now. Starring Naveen Polishetty, Rahul Ramakrishna and Priyadarshi in the lead, the movie's story focuses on the journey of three young men who relocate to Hyderabad from a small town. The film can be streamed on Amazon Prime Video.
Uppena (Telugu)
Uppena, which focuses on caste violence, features Vaishnavi Tej and Krithi Shetty in the lead roles with Tamil superstar Vijay Sethupathi playing the antagonist. The movie released on Netflix recently.
Joji (Malayalam)
Inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth, Joji is the story of an indolent youth who aspires to become extremely wealthy. Also starring Unnimaya Prasad, Baburaj, Shammi Thilakan and Basil Joseph, the movie released on Amazon Prime Video. Joji marks Faasil's third direct-to-OTT release after C U Soon and Irul.
The Priest (Malayalam)
Mammootty's The Priest is an investigative horror-thriller revolving around a priest with a special skill to detect supernatural elements. The film released on Amazon Prime Video on April 14.
Irul (Malayalam)
Irul, starring Fahadh Faasil, Soubin Shahir and Darshana Rajendra in the lead roles, is the story of a young couple stranded in a bungalow with a stranger. The thriller released in the first week of April on Netflix.
Vellam (Malayalam)
Starring Jayasurya in the lead role, the Prajesh Sen-directorial is the story of aN alcoholic whose life undergoes a drastic change. Also starring Samyuktha Menon, Siddique, Sreelakshmi, Santhosh Keezhattoor and Johny Antony in pivotal roles, the film released on SunNxt.
Yuvarathnaa (Kannada)
The action-drama stars Puneeth Rajkumar, Prakash Raj, Sayyeshaa and Sonu Gowda in the lead roles. The movie, which revolves around a government college that is on the verge of shutting down due to politics and privatisation of education system, released on Amazon Prime Video recently.
