The chaos that the DCU has experienced over the past year and a half is unparalleled. With James Gunn taking the helm alongside Peter Safran, the entire order of the universe changed. Their new vision omitted almost the entire existing DCEU, which was officially rebranded as the DCU. However, some IPs managed to survive as part of DC Elseworlds, one of which is The Batman, helmed by Matt Reeves. The Robert Pattinson-led franchise is branching out into bigger things, including the previously announced The Penguin. The show, set right after The Batman: Part 1, stars Colin Farrell as Oswald ‘Oz’ Cobblepot, aka The Penguin. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the show, but no release date was in sight.

The Penguin Release Window

The Penguin was one of the many projects that suffered significant delays during the Hollywood strikes last year. However, production soon resumed, and the makers were likely working overtime. While everyone expected the Colin Farrell-led show to premiere no earlier than November this year, HBO and Max CEO Casey Bloys have revealed a surprise: the release window is much sooner than anticipated. Read on for all the details.

The chairman and CEO of HBO and Max, Casey Bloys, discussed various projects in the latest Variety feature. While talking about their slate and the spread of projects, he mentioned House of the Dragon season 2, which releases on June 16 and will run until August 4. He then quickly added that it would be followed by The Penguin in September. Yes, you read that right—the Batman spin-off show starring Colin Farrell is set to release on Max this September. While no exact date has been provided, this news from the CEO is a significant confirmation.

"So after House of the Dragon, the next big tentpole series that we have coming up will be The Penguin with Colin Farrell. That is coming out of Matt Reeves' The Batman, and it's fantastic. Just like Peacemaker came out of James Gunn's Suicide Squad, it's a really good example of what you can do. That'll be in September,” said Casey Bloys.

About Penguin

Set right after the events of The Batman Part I, where parts of Gotham were underwater after Riddler gunned down Falcone and flooded the city, The Penguin will see Oz vying for power against baddies like Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) and Carmine's daughter Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti). The eight-part series is being called a crime drama that will follow Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot’s journey from the darkened ranks to becoming the dreaded Penguin.

The cast of The Penguin includes Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O'Connell, Michael Zegen, and John Cenatiempo. Michael has been cast to play the Falcone family underboss Johnny Vitti and Michael Zegen is playing Alberto Falcone, Carmine's oddball son.
