For months, if not a year, fans have been living in anticipation sparked by DC Studios' announcement that The Penguin would be a series with Gotham's Kingpin taking center stage. Colin Farrell was announced as the titular lead, adding to the already heightened excitement. Recently, the studio fueled the anticipation with teasers, trailers, and periodic promotional material. However, one crucial detail was missing: the release date. Fans have eagerly awaited the release date for the show, which was slated for the second half of the year, and now, as we find ourselves in August, the wait is finally over. HBO Max has delighted fans by confirming a September release date for the much-anticipated show, and below is everything you need to know about this exciting update. 

The Penguin Release Date Revealed

For the uninitiated, even amid the upheaval in the DC film world when James Gunn and Peter Safran took over, the DC Elseworlds remained a safe haven. Projects like The Batman Part Two, Joker, and others continued to move forward, and one of them was The Penguin, which continues the story from The Batman Part 1. Set after the tragic events of the Robert Pattinson-starrer, where Gotham was flooded, the show is unique, bringing the stellar Colin Farrell into the DC universe—something truly exciting.

Today, the makers of The Penguin thrilled fans by not only revealing a new poster for the show but also announcing the release date. According to the announcement, The Penguin will premiere on HBO Max worldwide and on JioCinema in India on September 20, 2024. The show is an eight-episode drama that will be available for streaming to subscribers of the aforementioned platforms.

In the announcement, the makers wrote, “The Penguin will also be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi on JioCinema Premium. So, mark your calendars and prepare for an intense and thrilling journey into Gotham’s underworld with The Penguin, streaming from September 20th, only on JioCinema Premium!”

About The Penguin

Set right after the events of The Batman Part I, where parts of Gotham were left underwater after the Riddler gunned down Falcone and flooded the city, The Penguin will follow Oz (Oswald Cobblepot) as he vies for power against villains like Salvatore Maroni (Clancy Brown) and Carmine’s daughter, Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti). The eight-part series is being described as a crime drama that will chronicle Oswald "Oz" Cobblepot's journey from the shadows to becoming the feared Penguin.

The cast of The Penguin includes Rhenzy Feliz, Michael Kelly, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Deirdre O'Connell, Michael Zegen, and John Cenatiempo. Michael Kelly has been cast as Falcone family underboss Johnny Vitti, and Michael Zegen is playing Alberto Falcone, Carmine's eccentric son.
