The Office sequel has a title that we couldn't have imagined - Cast, plot, release date; everything we know so far

The daily routine for many of us is to get up, get ready, leave for work, obsess over The Office while working, head back home, watch some more The Office, and sleep. While this may seem like an exaggeration, many fans actually live this routine. The sitcom, set in a paper sales company where the employees form the characters that deal with hilarious and entertaining situations, has become a cult classic over the years. Fans of the sitcom keep the buzz alive, bringing in more fans with each passing day. Now, it seems they have another show to look forward to as the conversation around The Office sequel intensifies. Yes, you read that right. 

The Office Sequel Gets a Title

Rumours about a possible sequel to The Office have been circulating for a long time. None of these reports had materialised, leading fans to lose hope. However, recent updates suggest that a sequel is indeed in the works, with progress being made slowly. The show, initially referred to as the Daniels & Koman Untitled Project, now has an official title. Below is everything you need to know about this exciting update.

The Title of the The Office Sequel

The news comes from a Twitter handle, Discussing Film, which credits the Writer’s Guild of America’s page for Greg Daniels. For those who don't know, Greg Daniels co-created The Office sequel with Michael Koman. According to the listing on Greg’s page, the sequel previously called the Daniels & Koman Untitled Project is now titled The Paper. Yes, the new title of The Office sequel is The Paper.

Revealing the same, Discussing Film wrote, “The new ‘THE OFFICE’ series is reportedly titled ‘THE PAPER’. The series follows the Dunder Mifflin documentary crew as they focus on a dying historic Midwestern newspaper & its volunteer reporters.”

The Paper Plot

While not much is known about The Paper’s main plot yet, the listing provides some big details. The American version of The Office, developed by Daniels, focused on the employees of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company's Scranton branch. The sequel will follow the same documentary crew as they search for a new workplace, eventually stumbling upon a struggling newspaper in the Midwest.

The logline reads, "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."

The Paper Cast, Production & Release Date

While the entire cast of The Paper is not yet known, it is expected to be a massive ensemble. NBCUniversal Entertainment President Lisa Katz confirmed two cast members for the sequel back in the day: Domhnall Gleeson, known for About Time, and The White Lotus star Sabrina Impacciatore. The team is set to begin production in the summer of 2024.

There is no confirmed release date for The Paper, but it is expected to drop sometime in 2025.
