Anil Kapoor is currently gearing up for the release of The Night Manager Part 2, in which he plays the main antagonist, Shelly Rungta. The series has Aditya Roy Kapur in the lead role.

The actor has spent the last decade picking roles in which he can shine as brightly as the film's protagonist. According to him, it's all in one's head. Anil told Mid Day that he always feels like the film's leading man, even if he only has four scenes or a cameo. Of course, the actor doesn't cross any lines here. He acknowledges the contributions of those directly responsible for the film's current status. But Anil makes an effort to keep any feelings of inferiority to himself. He doesn't feel the need to prove himself to anyone unless they step on his toes.

Whether he's playing the greedy father in Jugjugg Jeeyo or the villain in the newest Disney+ Hotstar offering, Anil is always a reliable choice. The actor, though, gives credit for the show's complex characters to creator Sandeep Modi's vision and the writing. One can add subtlety to a character when the script and book from which the show is adapted are great. Some people don't put forth the effort they should but expect to succeed. It's possible to produce quality work without adequate preparation, but it won't be on par with the stuff shown in this show.

However, the veteran actor is keen to point out that there were risks involved in making the crime thriller—dangers he was ready to face because of his confidence in the script. The project needs to have the right story, script, and character, among other things, for him to commit to it. Anil gambled on a couple plot points in The Night Manager.

As an example, the actor had never before collaborated with the platform's creators or with Banijay, the production company that approached them. Sandeep is a relatively up-and-coming filmmaker who co-directed Aarya. When it comes to adaptations, Anil's experience is limited to his time spent working on 24 as a producer. He was merely playing a part here, and all of these gambles were successful.

The Night Manager Part 2 will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on June 30, 2023.
