The Lady Killer on OTT: Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar starrer lands on YouTube without any buzz

Some movies undergo tragic journeys before they reach audiences, and sometimes, the journey itself becomes more talked about than the movie. The Lady Killer has turned out to be one such film, facing a tumultuous path where it was released in only a handful of theaters in November last year, grossing a mere one lakh rupees at the box office, with just 293 tickets sold on the first day. Starring Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar, the film had a rough start as it was released with an incomplete cut, and the makers never managed to wrap up the production or deliver a complete product. While no concrete reason was provided for this, and director Ajay Bahl clarified that the issue was not due to the actors, audiences had been eagerly waiting for the movie to drop on streaming platforms.

Released on November 3, 2024, The Lady Killer became the biggest box office flop to date, earning only Rs 38,000 gross on day one. This failure made the film's future even more uncertain, with no news on which streaming platform it would be available. Considering that the cut was incomplete and there seemed to be no motivation to finish it, it looked like the movie might never see the light of day on streaming services. However, it seems that the major streaming players didn’t purchase the incomplete film, and now T-Series has decided to drop it on YouTube.

Yes, you read that right. T-Series, which backed The Lady Killer and director Ajay Bahl, has released the movie on YouTube without creating any buzz around its release. The film premiered on the platform this morning, with the production house only holding a countdown before the drop. To see an Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar film go through this fate is surprising, considering they are well-known stars. Audiences can now watch the film on T-Series’ official YouTube channel. Ajay Bahl on Releasing the Incomplete Cut

When the YouTube channel Tried and Refused Productions made a video about The Lady Killer and shared that the makers had released an incomplete cut of the film in theaters, director Ajay Bahl confirmed the news in the comment section. He clarified that the actors had nothing to do with the issues that occurred. "To confirm, yes, the movie is incomplete. Thirty pages of the 117-page screenplay were never shot. A huge number of connecting scenes—Arjun and Bhumi’s entire romance, Bhumi’s dependence on alcohol, Arjun’s sense of being trapped and losing everything, having to run from town, his sense of total despair—all these psychological beats are missing."

He added, “So yes, it's no surprise that the film feels choppy and disjointed, making it hard for viewers to connect with the characters. Now, regarding the rumors floating around, as the director, it was extremely painful to shoot The Lady Killer, but absolutely not because of the actors. Arjun and Bhumi were a joy to work with. They gave their heart and soul to the film. The problem lay elsewhere, but that’s another story."
