It seems that the road to getting The Kashmir Files on the big screen was riddled with obstacles for the makers. Pallavi Joshi, who also stars in the film, recently revealed that during the last day of the film’s shoot, the makers received a fatwa.

In a conversation with News18, Joshi, who also produced the film revealed that they spent almost four years making the movie, even though the actual shoot took only about a month. Joshi talked about how challenging the other aspects of putting the film together were, such as the research, contacting people, getting the cast and budget ready.

The actress said that when they were shooting in Kashmir, a fatwa was issued against her and her husband, Vivek Agnihotri, who has directed the film. She said that rather than trying to make a big thing out of it, they tried to quickly wrap things up as she feared they would not get another chance to shoot at the location.

“That was the only challenge we faced while shooting," Joshi said.

Agnihotri had earlier talked about how he had to deactivate his Twitter account after he allegedly received threats from multiple people before the film’s release. Some of the threats even targeted his family, he said.

The Kashmir Files revolves around the story of the mass exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits that took place in 1990. In addition to Joshi, the film also features Anupam Kher, Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, Chinmay Mandlekar, Puneet Issar, Mrinal Kulkarni, Atul Srivastava, Prithviraj Sarnaik, Bhasha Sumbli and Prakash Belawadi. The film was released in theatres on March 11.
