The upcoming Vivek Agnihotri directorial revolves around the story of the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits that took place in the 1990s

Anupam Kher’s first look from the upcoming film, The Kashmir Files, produced by Zee Studios, was unveiled today. The film is written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri.
Kher shared the first look, a motion poster, on his official social media handles. The clip features a close up of Kher’s face coming into view amid a cloud of dust and smoke.
The voiceover talks of a patriotic account of a man from Kashmir, and in the background are sounds of gunshots and screams.
The poster also makes mention of article 370, which had granted the region special status to Jammu & Kashmir until it was revoked in 2019.
Kher also revealed that his character in the film is called Pushkar, as a tribute to his late father.
The upcoming film will revolve around the story of the the exodus and genocide of Kashmiri Pandits that took place in the 1990s.
According to The Sunday Guardian, the story will be told through the eyes of a young university student who feels a sense of conflict between his political ideals and his religious identity. Kher will play the young person’s grandfather. The film had wrapped up production earlier this year.
In addition to Kher, the film also stars Mithun Chakraborty, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Chinmay Mandlekar, Puneet Issar and Prakash Belawadi.
The Kashmir Files will be released in theatres first on Republic Day, January 26, 2022. It will be available to stream on ZEE5 after its theatrical run.
