Netflix will finally be able to show the truth behind the heinous 2012 crime that shook the nation. The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth documentary is based on the infamous Sheena Bora murder case in 2012. Indrani Mukerjea has exclusively spoken about Bora's death for the first time in the documentary, which has been in the news ever since Netflix released the first poster. In the poster, a half-covered face of Indrani is visible.

The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth was supposed to release on February 23 on Netflix, but it was postponed by a week upon the Bombay High Court's instruction. The HC also asked Netflix to arrange a special screening for the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) before releasing it, as the agency had concerns regarding the content. The documentary was finally released today (February 29).

CBI's concerns regarding the Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth

As the trial in the Sheena Bora murder case is still underway, the CBI claimed that the documentary could result in bias in the case. Since the agency had approached the Bombay High Court, Netflix had no other option apart from delaying the release of The Indrani Mukerjea Story: Buried Truth.

The documentary features Indrani Mukerjea, along with her children Vidhie Mukherjea and Mikhail Bora, some lawyers, and former journalists. It is said that they all speak about the dysfunctional Mukerjea family and their shocking motives. Netflix has assured that the documentary will have some unseen images of Indrani’s former husband, Peter Mukerjea and his son, Rahul Mukerjea. The documentary also has disturbing call recordings of Indrani, Peter and Rahul.

Indrani Mukerjea and her imprisonment

All six accused in the Sheena Bora murder case have been bailed. After spending six years in jail, Indrani is still on trial for her daughter’s murder. The Supreme Court granted her bail in 2022, declaring the case would take a long time to be solved, and Indrani's prison time has been dragged on for too long.

Last year, Indrani published a memoir, Unbroken, in which she wrote her side of the story, claiming that she did what she did for self defence. The book paints a vivid picture of INX Media founder Peter Mukerjea's journey and highlights her innocence. The Netflix documentary is based on her book, in which Indrani claims that Sheena's real killer is still roaming free.
