The first single from Thalapathy Vijay's highly anticipated movie The Greatest Of All Time was unveiled on Sunday, coinciding with the celebration of Tamil New Year. The song has been titled Whistle Podu, and Vijay has lent his voice to composer Yuvan Shankar Raja's beats.
Whistle Podu carried a lot of pre-release hype as this marked Yuvan's debut composing for a Vijay film, raising expectations. Notably, Yuvan's compositions were up against chartbusters delivered by the likes of Anirudh Ravichander and Thaman S in recent times, presenting a challenging task for him.
Soon after the song's release, social media was flooded with a wave of disappointment. Many, including die-hard fans of Thalapathy Vijay, expressed dissatisfaction with the song and its beats, spawning viral memes mocking director Venkat Prabhu and Yuvan.

The only saving grace of the Whistle Podu lyrical video was a brief glimpse showing Vijay setting the dance floor on fire alongside Prabhudeva and Prashanth. While the lyrics and music beats didn't resonate with fans, the dance sequence was a big hit. Fans even started adding their favourite songs to the dance sequence, making it go viral.
Some fans have defended Whistle Podu, suggesting that while it may not be an instant hit, it has the potential to grow on listeners over time.

Despite mixed reactions, Whistle Podu has set several records in terms of viewership, garnering over 20 million views and 1 million likes in less than 24 hours.
The production of The Greatest Of All Time is ongoing in Russia, marking the final schedule of the film. Following this, the film will enter post-production. The filmmakers have confirmed that another song will be released on September 5.
