The Greatest Of All Time, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer directed by Venkat Prabhu, hit theatres across the globe on September 5, 2024. The action thriller, which features Vijay in a double role, has made a massive opening at the worldwide box office, by collecting around Rs. 100 crore on its release day. However, the recent updates suggest that The GOAT failed to beat the Day 1 worldwide collection of Thalapathy Vijay’s previous outing Leo, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj.

According to the recent updates from the trade experts, The Greatest Of All Time has made a grand opening at the worldwide box office, by collecting around Rs. 100 crore on Day 1. Thus, the Thalapathy Vijay starrer has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2024, so far. But, the Venkat Prabhu directorial failed to beat the Day 1 collection of Leo, the 2023-released gangster thriller film, directed by hitmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj. For the uninitiated, Leo made an opening worldwide box office collection of Rs. 145 crore.

If the reports are to be believed, The Greatest Of All Time has made a total domestic (All India) collection of around Rs. 53 crore, on its Day 1 at the theatres. The Thalapathy Vijay starrer has reportedly collected around Rs. 30 crore from Tamil Nadu alone, on its release day. The Kerala collections, on the other hand, reportedly stand at Rs. 5.8 crore. While The GOAT failed to beat Leo yet again with its Day 1 All India and Kerala collections, it succeeded in surpassing the Tamil Nadu collections of the Lokesh Kanagaraj film.

According to co-producer Archana Kalpathi, The Greatest Of All Time is made with a budget of over Rs. 400 crore. If the reports are to be believed, Thalapathy Vijay was paid a whopping remuneration of Rs. 200 crore. While considering Vijay’s unparalleled star status, ability to pull audiences to the theatres, and exceptional advance booking sales, it is safe to assume that The GOAT has the chance to emerge as one of the all-time highest-grossing films of Tamil cinema.
