Directors Pavan Sadineni, Sai Rajesh, Maruthi, Karuna Kumar and others grace the film launch event

Actor, director Rahul Ravindran, who helmed the National Award-winning Chi La Sow and Manmadhudu 2, has commenced work on his third film titled The Girlfriend. Rashmika Mandanna plays the lead role in the film, which was formally announced recently. The film, jointly produced by Geetha Arts, Mass Movie Makers and Dheeraj Entertainment, was launched today with a pooja ceremony.
Besides the producers Vidya Koppineedi, Dheeraj Mogilineni, a bevvy of directors graced the launch event including Baby filmmaker Sai Rajesh, Pavan Sadineni (who helmed Dayaa, Senapathi recently), Karuna Kumar (who soon helms Varun Tej’s Matka), Maruthi (who is directing Prabhas’ horror comedy). Veteran producer Allu Aravind sounded the clapboard and handed over the script to Rahul Ravidran.
The shoot is set to commence soon. Hesham Abdul Wahab, who scored music for Kushi, Spark and the upcoming Nani starrer Hi Nanna, has come on board as the composer. Krishnan Vasant cranks the camera for the film with S Ramakrishna and Monika Nigotre (who worked on Rangasthalam earlier) handling production design. Shravya Varma is the costume designer.
When the first look of the film was launched a few weeks ago, Rashmika, while talking about the project, said, “The world is full of great love stories. But there are those few love stories that haven't been heard or seen before. And ‘The Girlfriend’ is one such.” The actress, who awaits the release of Animal this week, also has films like Chaava, D51, Rainbow and Pushpa 2 in her kitty.
Besides directing The Girlfriend, Rahul Ravindran also plays a key role in Mahesh Babu’s Sankranthi 2024 release Guntur Kaaram, directed by Trivikram. In addition, he’ll be making his Hindi film debut with Alia Bhatt’s next - Jigra, directed by Vasan Bala. He was also seen in the multilingual The Great Indian Kitchen alongside Aishwarya Rajesh this year.
