Pa Ranjith, whose latest release was the critically-acclaimed Sarpatta Parambarai (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) will direct a web series next, in Tamil. Titled Vettuvam, the first look of the project will be launched at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival 2022.

Vettuvam will be produced by Ranjith in association with Abhayanand Singh, Piiyush Singh, Saurabh Gupta, and Aditi Anand under the banner Neelam Studios and Golden Ratio Films. Ashwini Chaudhary and Parul Singh will serve as co-producers. Neelam Studios is a newly started venture, which will collaborate with Golden Ratio Films on this project, according to Silverscreen.

Golden Ratio earlier teamed up with Ranjith’s Neelam Productions on Samuthirakani's Writer (streaming on aha Tamil) and the two studios are also backing the upcoming, J Baby.

A report published by the Silverscreen reads, “Vettuvam means to hunt in Tamil. With one title, there will be a film as well as a web series made. Ranjith will be writing and directing both. Vettuvam will be a new take on Robin Hood. It will primarily be a rural gangster film and will predominantly take place against the backdrop of a prison. There will be some cop-related elements to the story as well.”

It looks like the cast and crew members will be announced soon. Vettuvam is expected to release in 2023. "After the first look is released at the festival, the shooting will commence sometime in the second half of this year. The film will be shot first, followed by the series," the Silverscreen report added.

On the front work, Pa Ranjith has an untitled film with Kamal Haasan, besides Natchathiram Nagargirathu and Vikram's Maidhaanam, under the Studio Green banner (tentatively titled). Natchathiram Nagargirathu marks Ranjith's return to the romance genre after his debut film, Attakathi.

Said to be a film that will discuss various layers of romance, Natchathiram Nagargirathu has Hari Krishnan, Sarpatta Parambarai fame Shabeer Kallarakkal, Kalidas Jayaram, Dushara Vijayan and Kalaiyarasan, in pivotal roles. The film has cinematography by Kishor Kumar and music by Tenma, who both had collaborated in Irandam Ulagaporin Kadaisi Gundu, which was bankrolled by Ranjith.

Further, Ranjith will be making his Bollywood debut with his Birsa, a biopic based on the life of tribal leader Birsa Munda, who emerged as the face of resistance against the British in the 19th century.

Talking about his Bollywood debut, the filmmaker had said, "I could not have chosen a better project for my first Hindi film. The process of scripting and research behind the film has been very enriching."

The film will be produced by Shareen Mantri and Kishor Arora's Namah Pictures.

Speaking about the film, producer Shareen Mantri had said, "We, at Namah Pictures, love to tell stories that engage, entertain and inspire. The team has undergone intense research for the film and we aim to bring alive Birsa's story on a colossal scale."
