After being available to rent on Prime Video and ZEE5 (OTTplay Premium), The Fall Guy is gearing up for its full-fledged OTT release. JioCinema has announced that it will begin streaming the action comedy on September 3, 2024. David Leitch's The Fall Guy is a Drew Pearce-written adaptation of the popular 1980s TV show of the same name, starring Aryan Gosling and Emily Blunt in the lead roles. While working on his ex-girlfriend's (Blunt) directorial debut action film, a stuntman (Gosling) finds himself embroiled in a conspiracy involving the film's lead actor (Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Teresa Palmer, Stephanie Hsu, Winston Duke, and Hannah Waddingham round out the ensemble.
The Fall Guy plot overview and key characters
Ryan Gosling portrays Colt Seavers, a stuntman with battle scars and a recent near-fatal accident. It is revealed that Colt's ex-girlfriend, Jody (Emily Blunt), is a film director who specifically requested that he return to his stunt work. The film's main man is missing, and production is in jeopardy until Colt comes to the set in the hopes of gaining back his life's love. Embroiled in an increasingly irrational scheme, he must unravel the riddle to rescue Jody's film and secure one final chance with her. In what ways could things go well? In The Fall Guy, David Leitch combines a classic love story with hysterical comedy, intense action, and a plethora of spectacular stunts.
Gosling and Blunt reportedly modeled the onscreen romance on the relationship between Leitch and his producer wife Kelly McCormick. Blunt's role changed from cosmetics artist to first-time director before she received a copy of the script.
Emily Blunt's approach to her role
In regards to her character, Blunt expressed her thoughts by stating that they all kind of built her together, because she thinks, maybe in the original script, she was quite severe and that sort of tough director; she believed it would be more captivating to witness someone who is in a situation where they're way over their head.
Filmmaker Greta Gerwig and a number of other individuals Blunt met served as inspiration for the role.
The Fall Guy bombed at the box office, earning only $178 million globally despite a $125 million budget, even though it got mostly positive reviews from critics.
