Director David Lynch has boarded the cast of Steven Spielberg's upcoming drama The Fabelmanns. The details of the role, however, have been kept strictly under wraps.
Lynch and Spielbergs launched their careers around the same time in the 1970s. This project will mark the first collaboration between the two filmmakers.
Lynch has previously held guest roles in films and TV shows including FBI agent Gordon Cole in Twin Peaks, which he co-created with Mark Frost. He also held a small acting role in the 2017 Harry Dean Stanton film Lucky.
Lynch has not directed a film in a long time, with his last feature-length project being Inland Empire (2006).
The Fabelmanns, which is loosely inspired by Spielberg's childhood in Arizona, also stars Michelle Williams, Seth Rogen, Paul Dano, Julia Butters and newcomer Gabriel LaBelle.
According to Variety, La Belle will star as an aspiring filmmaker Sammy and Butters will be seen as Spielberg's sister Anne. Williams and Dano will likely play characters based on Spielberg's late parents while Rogen's role is a version of the filmmaker's favourite uncle.
Other cast members include Judd Hirsch, Sam Rechner, Oakes Fegley, Chloe East, Jeannie Berlin, Robin Bartlett, Jonathan Hadary and Isabelle Kusman.
